The 7th Annual Montana Ewe Sale will kick off at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 16th, at 6 pm sharp. Ewes sell at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds in Miles City and this year features 640 head of Montana raised yearlings and ewe lambs. The first 240 head will be offered and sold on-site at the Agri-Sports Building. Another 400 head will be available off-site at three locations around the state. This is your lucky chance to begin or increase your flock with quality, home-grown Montana ewes.
Ewes offered have a reputation for quality so you can feel confident buying your ewes at this sale. The on-site ewes will be individually inspected by our sale veterinarian for general health, clear eyes, sound mouth and udders. The ewes offered have been treated for keds at home. Any ewe not passing inspection will be screened out and will not sell—we want buyers to take home ewes that are functional and ready to go! The on-site ewes are available for viewing after 3pm on Tuesday and all-day Wednesday.
Many breeds will be offered this year, including several cross-bred ewes, from 16 different consignors. New consignors, but not new to the sheep industry, this year include Hinnaland from Circle, Helle Rambouillet out of Dillon, Levi Bucklin from Redstone, and Clover Meadows, LLC (Cal and Julie Ward) located in Sheridan. These operations span from Dillon to Redstone, so you can be sure to find sheep that suit the country you’ll be asking them to perform in! Suffolk and Suffolk/Hampshire ewe lambs will be offered in pens of five. All whiteface ewes are about a year-and-a-half old, born in the spring of 2019. Check the consignor listing on the facing page for details on breeds offered.
The 100 head off-site lots will be offered from Bucklin Ranches (Redstone, MT) and Helle Rambouillet (Dillon, MT). Ben Lehfeldt from Lehfeldt Rambouillet (Lavina, MT) will sell two lots of 100 head each. The 100 head lots will be offered in groups of 50 head—Lots A and B. Successful bidders will have the option of taking one or both groups at that price before bidding is reopened on the remaining group. This is a great opportunity to partner with another sheep producer in your area and increase your flock numbers or start a brand-new flock.
