138th Annual Montana Wool Growers Association Convention

138th Annual MWGA Convention

Billings Hotel and Convention Center-Billings, MT

December 2-4, 2021

Join the flock in Billings, MT for the annual MWGA convention at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center!  Highlights include great workshops, keynote speakers, a vendor trade show, great meals, and more!  See the full agenda at the link above.

The festivities kick off on Thursday afternoon, December 2 at 4pm.  Several MWGA members will be bringing different technologies they’re using on their operations to share.  This is the time to try the tech for yourself and ask questions of those people who have used these technologies on their ranches.  There will be EID readers, many types of EID tags, NSIP data collection information, and members who use Racewell and Shearwell handling systems on their operations.  Bring your laptops if you have interest in learning more about using the online Canva program to easily build advertisements for your sheep/lamb/wool business.  This will be a very hands-on, informal two hours.  Thank you to the Biebers, Sampsels, Helles, Dr Posbergh, and Lisa Surber for being willing to bring your technologies and share them!

Thursday evening will be time to celebrate our MWGA President, Ken McKamey.  Ken has served as President for two years, and will be stepping off the board.  Come to the lobby bar in the hotel from 6-8pm to thank him for his service and visit.  Since we were unable to host Convention in-person in 2020, we will also be celebrating Jim Brown!  Jim served as the MWGA Public Affairs Director for MWGA for nearly a decade and we were unable to give him a proper send-off last year.  Come catch up with Jim and thank him for his important work on behalf of MWGA.

Friday is a day full of updates and speakers.  Our lunch guests include MSU President, Waded Cruzado, and Janelle Booth, Director of Government Affairs at MSU.  They will share updates on the progress on the Wool Lab project.  We are excited to have the President and Janelle join us.  The rest of the day will be full of great industry updates, with the famous Speed Shear Event happening Friday evening.

Saturday is another full day of pertinent sheep related topics and speakers.  Our lunch keynote will be Jay Kolbe, who is a biologist with Montana Fish and Wildlife and Parks.  You won’t want to miss his update on the Big Horn projects he’s worked on.  After a great lamb lunch, there will be a felting workshop begin for those looking for a fun afternoon project.  This will cost an additional amount (TBD, but likely $25 dollars).  There will also be a hands-on wool classing hour.  Learn a bit about wool, and then try your hand at placing a class of fleeces.  At 3:30 pm, it is time to get down to business, at the Annual Membership Meeting.  MWGA members are encouraged to attend to elect Directors to the MWGA board, vote on policy resolutions, and an update the the MWGA bylaws.  The grand finale of Saturday is the Banquet!  This is a very fun event, complete with a live and silent auction.  The Montana Make-It-With-Wool contestants will present a fashion show titled “Prada Worn By Ewe”.

Come for the entire Convention, or choose what you’d like to join for.  Click the Registration link above to register.  Many thanks to our sponsors who help with the costs of putting on this event!
