Mark your calendars now to attend the 5th Annual MT Ewe Sale in Miles City on September 12th.
Cord Bieber, Ewe Sale Chairman, reports, “This year we wanted to let all Montana Wool Grower members have a little more time to think about consigning or attending the ewe sale, so we started taking entries on March 1. The entry blank appeared in the Winter 2018 issue of the Montana Wool Grower as well as the Spring 2018 magazine. Although entries close on August 1, we encourage breeders to send in their entries as soon as possible.”
The ewe sale committee expects several breeds of commercial whiteface sheep to be offered, in the past we’ve had Rambouillet, Targhee, Cormo X Targhee, Rambouillet X Targhee and Cormo’s. Mutton type breeds have been primarily Suffolk ewe lambs.
The Suffolk ewe lambs will sell in lots of 5 head. All the whiteface lots for sale on the grounds will either sell in lots of 10 head or 20 head. All ewes sold on the grounds will be handled individually and tipped up to make sure they have functional udders, a sound mouth and that no health risks are evident at inspection. Off-site ewes sell in lots of 100 head or full semi loads.

History of the MT Ewe Sale
The 1st Annual Montana Ewe Sale took place on September 10, 2014 at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds in Miles City, Montana. There was close to 500 head entered in the sale with mostly Rambouillet, Targhee, and Rafter 7 Merino crosses being offered.
The ewe sale offered some of the best female genetics available from ram sale consignors and select replacements from quality Montana commercial producers. Both ewe lambs and yearling ewes were offered in lots of 10, 20, 100 and pot load consignments.
