07 Nov District Make It With Wool Contests Determine Who Will Compete at State
The district contests for the Make It With Wool Contest were held last month around the state, determining who would be going for the State titles at the Make It With Wool State Contest held during the Annual Montana Wool Growers Association Convention each year. Make It With Wool (MIWW) is an annual sewing competition whose aim is to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics, yards, and fibers. MIWW encourages personal creativity in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, and other needlework arts. The winners of the Junior, Senior and Adult categories from the State Competition will go on the compete with others across the nation at the National MIWW Contest that is to be held during the American Sheep Industry Convention in Denver, Colorado, January 25th-28th, 2017.
The District 6 Make It With Wool event was held Sunday October 23 at the Sleep Inn in Miles City. The pre-teen winner was Isis Keltner from Ismay, MT. She modeled her 100% Pendleton wool grey slim skirt, a pattern she used from her level one 4-H book. The adult winner was Cheryl Morrison of Terry, MT. She wore a self-designed vest and tulip skirt of green plaid 100% Pendleton wool. Cheryl will be competing in the state competition and representing District 6.
The District 3 competition was held Saturday, October 29th, in Great Falls and had 13 contestants — 7 Pre-Teens (they will not move onto State contest); 2 Juniors; 1 Senior; 1 Adult; and 2 Made for Others. Representing District 3 at the state contest will be: Juniors Angelina Toth and Annie Townsend, Senior Jasmine Powell, Adult Danielle Reier, and Made for Others Rosella Higgins and Tammy Townsend. Tammy and Rosella each made an outfit for their model to wear. The Pre-teens in that competition were Mikayla Toeckes, Maggie Toeckes, Grace Toeckes (all of Power); Shyla Solomon (Havre); Shea Ostberg (Fairfield); Emilee Lear (Fairfield); and Presley Holmquist (Fairfield). It was great to see so much participation out of that district!
District 1 held their competition in Ronan on Sunday, October 30. They had two Pre-teen contestants, Brogan Youngren and Kiara Sherman. The two Junior contestants that will be representing District 1 at the MIWW contest in Billings are Morgan Brooks and Brooklyn Kenetly, both of Ronan. Michal Ann Stedje, of Ronan, will be competing in the Adult category at the State contest.
The above mentioned MIWW State contestants will go through a rigorous judging process at the MIWW State competition that will be held in Billings at the Red Lion Hotel and Convention Center December 2nd and 3rd. Finishing up the weekend will be the highly anticipated MIWW Fashion Show that is held during the Annual Wool Grower Convention Banquet. During the Fashion Show, the winners of each category will be announced. Only the top Junior, Senior, and Adult will move on to the National stage in Denver. MWGA wishes all the contestants good luck at the State competition…we can’t wait to see the fashion show!
